Privacy Policy — Dark Docs
Last updated: October 30, 2026
Dark Docs is a Chrome extension that applies a dark theme to Google Docs, Google Sheets and other web editors you turn it on for, and lets you create 3D heading images in Google Docs. This policy explains what data the extension handles.
Data we collect
None. The extension does not collect, store on our servers, sell or share any personal data, document content, browsing history or usage statistics. It has no analytics. The only exception on our website is the ad click identifier described under “Partner ads”.
Data stored on your device
- Your settings (selected theme, on/off switches, auto-switch schedule, sites you turned the theme on for) are kept in Chrome's local extension storage.
- A small cache of the current theme state is kept in the page's local storage so the theme appears without a flash when a document opens.
This data never leaves your browser. Removing the extension deletes it.
Network requests
About once an hour the extension downloads a signed file with theme colors, styles and compatibility fixes from https://ffna2.com/dark-docs/. The request contains no information about you, your documents or the pages you visit. As with any web request, the server receives your IP address; it is not used to identify you and is not shared.
Pages the extension runs on
The extension runs on docs.google.com and only on other sites you explicitly turn it on for from its popup. On these pages it changes colors and styles locally. It does not read, copy or send the content of your documents or pages.
3D headings
A 3D heading is drawn in your browser and pasted into your document as a picture. Its link stores the heading's text and style after the # sign, which browsers never send to the server. Anyone who opens the link sees a preview rendered in their own browser.
Install and uninstall pages
After installation the extension opens a quick-start page on our website once. After removal, Chrome opens a page on our website with the extension's version number in its address. Nothing else is sent.
Partner ads
If you arrived through an advertisement of one of our partners, the ad link carries a click identifier generated by the ad network. When you follow the ad, our website saves it for up to 90 days in a cookie for ffna2.com (and remembers in your browser's local storage which events were already reported), and, when the quick-start or removal page opens, our server tells the ad network that this click led to an install or a removal. Only the click identifier is sent, from our server — not your IP address, browser details, settings or anything about your documents. The extension itself never sees or sends the identifier. If you did not come from such an ad, nothing is reported.
Permissions
The extension asks only for the permissions it needs to work: local storage, a periodic update check, injecting its own packaged scripts into the pages above, reading the current tab's address when you open the popup, optional access to sites you turn it on for, and (if you allow it) running signed compatibility fixes on Google Docs and Sheets.
